Rufous Fantails

Coloured Pencil on Illustration Board  43 x 34 cm   For Sale

These birds were flitting around in my front yard.
Quickly, I ran inside to get my camera.
I could hear their tinkling notes but could not see them.
Suddenly there they were, very close and how lucky I was
to get some photos?

Yongergnow Malleefowl – Finalist in the Holmes Art Prize!

Yongergnow Malleefowl

Very happy to say that Yongergnow Malleefowl has been accepted as a finalist in the Holmes art Prize to be held at  Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in Maleny from 11 September – 13 October

Size: 107 x 62 cm (42 x 24 Inches)

Medium: Oil, Texture Gel on Linen

A few years ago, while researching the South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo in south-west Victoria, (south-east South Australia and south-west Victoria), my interest was reignited in another bird that lived in the area as well.   I returned to the Little Desert to learn more about them and find reference material recently.  Although I didn’t see any of the birds, I was taken to one of their amazing incubator mounds.

They are another fascinating and clever ‘Megapode’

Still needing to find reference material I travelled to Yongernow Malleefowl Centre in Ongerup WA.   These birds are difficult to see in the wild when you are looking for them, so this was an ideal place to get the reference material needed

Australian Ringneck Parrot – Beautiful Tail Feathers

Australian Ringneck Parrot

Sub species zonarius(Port Lincoln Parrot)

Size: 71cm x 56 cm (27x22inch)

Medium: Oil on Linen

I photographed these Parrots in southwest Western Australia while on a trip to find a reference for my next painting of a Malleefowl.  I had seen them in Queensland and noticed that these birds were a little difference in colour.  This caught my attention and I have since learned that there are four subspecies of the Australian Ringneck Parrot.

Mixed Media painting 51.5 x 35.5  of a Spotted Quoll  – For Sale

The reference for this painting was found in Tasmania.  To me, they are one of the mysterious creatures.  I felt like I was taken back to ancient Australia whilst painting this.

Spotted Quolls were once common in South Eastern Australia and Tasmania.  They are now threatened and endangered on the mainland and rare in Tasmania.

The Gang Gangs

Mixed Media painting 39 x 29 cm of a male and female pair.

I have recently read that these Cockatoos are ‘left-footed’.  That is they use their left foot to hold things….  Apparently, this is a sign of intelligence.

Gang Gang on the Forest Floor

This is a mixed media painting of a young male Gang Gang.  They are an Australian Cockatoo, commonly found in NSW, Vic, Kangaroo Island and South Australia.

Like many other Cockatoos, they are fascinating to watch.  I sat for quite a while at Healesville Sanctuary in the Woodland Bird Aviary watching the intelligent and social behaviour of male and female and I know they were aware of me too.
